From the Board (June 2025)
As the weather warms and summer approaches, we’re seeing more visitors in the area—and the Old Mystic History Center (OMHC) is ready to welcome them! Whether you’re interested in researching local history or diving into your genealogy, we’re here to help you explore your roots and maybe even add a few new branches to your family tree.
OMHC Featured on Local TV
We’re thrilled to share that Southeastern Connecticut Television has featured OMHC in its latest episode of “Nautical Tales and Nature Trails: Recreation in Southeastern Connecticut and Southern Rhode Island.” Board member John Goodrich gave an interview about the History Center, and the episode is now live on YouTube. Watch it here:
We look forward to using more platforms like this to share OMHC’s story with a wider audience.
Volunteers
This summer, we’re pleased to welcome back our long-time student volunteer, Pat Strout, a sophomore at Eastern Connecticut State University. Pat continues the important work of entering scrapbook articles into our database. We’re also excited to introduce Hannah Delgrego, a new student volunteer from Connecticut College. Hannah is working on digitizing our collection of glass and acetate slides—fascinating images of Old Mystic dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Additionally, Christopher Cabianelli has joined our team and is assisting with organizing notebooks and helping with this very newsletter.
Building Updates:
We’ve recently completed some building maintenance, including cleaning the gutters and trimming back overhanging tree branches to better protect the roof.
Alliance for the Mystic River Watershed – Spring Water Festival
On May 10th, board members Marcus Maronn, Deb Keehn, and Sharon Maynard represented OMHC at the Spring Water Festival. Deb hosted a table with informational pamphlets and also offered copies of Eva Butler’s books for sale. Thank you to all who participated!

Connecticut Open House Day Saturday, June 14, 2025
Board members John Goodrich and Cora Grunwald opened the Center on Saturday, June 14th as part of the Annual Connecticut Open House Day. It was a great opportunity to stop by, say hello, and explore the OMHC.
